GLOBAL COVID-19 CASES SURPASS 40 MILLION: Officials from the World Health Organization are holding a press briefing on the latest developments in the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. The total number of global coronavirus cases has surpassed 40 million, as roughly 350,000 new infections were reported each day this past week, accounting for some of the highest rates since the start of the pandemic. Though the United States makes up only 4.2% of the global population, it is home to 20% of all cases.
