(17 Sep 2018) About 70 miles (115 kilometers) away from the coast of North Carolina, residents near the Lumber River stepped from their homes directly into boats floating in their front yards. Coast Guard shallow-water response crew members helped rescue people trapped by those flood waters caused by Hurricane Florence in the Mayfair neighborhood of Lumberton. In Pollocksville, North Carolina, Willie Schubert was hoisted aboard a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter. He was rescued off a stranded van.
