Tennessee voters take to polls on Super Tuesday

(3 Mar 2020) Millions of voters from Maine to California headed to the polls on Super Tuesday, the delegate-rich prize in the fight for the Democratic presidential nomination. It's shaping up as a contest between two starkly different visions for the party's future as it hurtles toward a November rematch with President Donald Trump. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who has energized liberals and young voters, sought to pull away from the rest of the field. In Nashville, Tennessee, voter Ryan Rayburn says he cast his ballot in support of Sanders again today as he did in 2016. "He lines up with a lot of how I feel about the future of this country and how I feel it should be run," Rayburn said. But Megan Minarich threw her support behind Elizabeth Warren. "As a woman, I also want someone in the White House who is going to protect my reproductive rights," Minarich said. Former vice president Joe Biden hoped to ride a wave of momentum and endorsements to cement himself as the standard-bearer for the party's moderate wing. The 14 coast-to-coast contests seemed certain to provide several other twists and turns, including the first test of billionaire Mike Bloomberg's massive spending in the Democratic race. Nashville resident Peggy Ferguson says she voted for Bloomberg, and prays he can help Democrats unseat Trump.
