THREE LOCKHEED AC-130 GHOSTRIDER GUNSHIP "HEEL FLIGHT" TAKEOFF • US AIR FORCE RAF LAKENHEATH

We have seen a fair few different variants of the C-130 during shows, but this was on wish list for sure, a fully armed C-130, in the form of a Gunship, the AC-130J. The Lockheed AC-130 gunship is heavily armed (as you can see that 105mm cannon), actually you can arm it with Precision Strike Package with 30mm and 105mm Howitzer cannons and Standoff Precision Guided Munitions (i.e. GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb, GBU-69 Small Glide Munition, AGM-114 Hellfire missile and AGM-176 Griffin missile). The AC-130Js primary missions are close air support (CAS), air interdiction and armed reconnaissance. This is a variant of the C-130 that will be "in contact" and on the battlefield under fire, especially during CAS missions. Other missions will include interdiction missions, strike coordination, reconnaissance as well as an overwatch mission sets. They have some background too. The AC-130J is the fifth-gen 6-bladed propeller gunship that replaced the fleet of AC-130U/W gunships. The AC-130 gunships have an extensive combat history dating back to Vietnam. During Vietnam, gunships destroyed more than 10,000 trucks and were credited with many life-saving, CAS missions. Over the past four decades, AC-130s have deployed constantly to hotspots throughout the world in support of special operations and conventional forces. In South America, Africa, Europe and throughout the Middle East, gunships have significantly contributed to mission success.
