Henrietta Lacks became known to the medical community when doctors took both healthy and cancerous cell samples from Henrietta’s cervix, which were used to establish the most important cell line in human history - the HeLa cell line. HeLa cells are ‘immortal’, perfect for medical research into polio, cancer, and HIV, to name a few. Yet, Henrietta died without ever knowing that her cells had been taken, or how they were being used. This led to reforms about the ethics of cell research, and the rights of the patient. #HenriettaLacks #HeLaCells #CervicalCancer ______________________________________________ ▶ Like us on Facebook 👍 @theintriguedmind www.facebook.com/theintriguedmind ▶ Follow our Instagram @_intriguedmind www.instagram.com/_intriguedmind ▶ Follow our TikTok @_intriguedmind www.tiktok.com/@_intriguedmind
