Sega CD Testing

Bought a "for parts or repair" Sega CD 2 off ebay for $25 shipped a few days ago and it just arrived. As soon as I got it out of the box, I knew something was up; Top half of the shell wasn't screwed into the bottom half in any way, shape, or form, and the lid to the CD drive was completely snapped off. Not something that happened in shipping, but broken and seemingly put back in place to look all nice for the camera. First attempt to power it up showed nothing. Genesis powered up fine, but the CD portion didn't respond at all. Thanks to all the missing screws, getting inside to poke around took less than a minute. A continuity test of the fuse showed it had blown; I have no replacements, jumping the contacts and retesting it managed to get me to the boot screen. A good sign. As of right now, it's capable of playing music CDs fine as far right now, but SCD games(admittedly burnt copies) seem like they're going to give some trouble. Only game I've tested so far is Sonic CD, and while it immediately loaded to the title screen, no music played and it got stuck in a loop of trying to read the disc. While my first thought was to go poking around at the pots to see what I might be able to do, I chose to clean the lens with a bit of alcohol first, as the room it is in is quite dusty. This managed to bring it to the point of playing the title music and even allowing it to load into the first level, but there still seem to be some audio hiccups and loading times that are far too much for even such an old and low-speed CD drive. There's also some stuttering when going quickly, but as this is my first experience with the actual hardware, I have no idea whether this is normal or a symptom of the problematic drive. I'm going to need a bit of time to fiddle around with this and try more than just one game to see if this is possibly just a bad burn/isolated incident and where would be best to go from here. Should also probably order a replacement fuse; I'd hate to get get this thing working somewhat respectfully only to have it get fried due to my stupidity and cheapness.
