Bhutto tried to leave by car but was blocked by police after a scuffle with her supporters who tried to remove a barricade. "You can see the barricades on both ends of the street. Obviously, I mean this is to prevent her to get out of her home," Enver Baig, a senator from Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party (PPP) told AP Television before Bhutto tried to leave her residence. "It is an illegal detention which they have done right now," he added. The former prime minister had planned to address a rally in nearby Rawalpindi, defying a ban on public gatherings. In Rawalpindi, about 200 of her supporters were dispersed by police using tear and batons. Friday is also a public holiday in Pakistan.
