HOW TO CONFIRM PREGNANCY? URINE PREGNANCY TEST It is generally done after 4-5 days of missed period. It can be done easily at home using a simple urine pregnancy test kit available easily at any pharmacy shop. It checks the level of Beta Hcg hormone in the pregnant woman’s urine. 2 lines in the test indicates a positive result and 1 line indicates a negative result. SERUM BETA HCG TEST It is a blood test. It tests the level of beta Hcg hormone in a pregnant woman’s blood. It detects pregnancy earlier than the urine pregnancy test. It also gives an exact value, which can be useful in predicting whether the pregnancy is healthy or not. We can also do serum Beta Hcg tests serially in a a gap of 2-3 days. A rising trend indicates a growing pregnancy, whereas a falling trend indicates a failing/unhealthy pregnancy. ULTRASOUND Ultrasound is the final confirmatory test for diagnosing pregnancy. It tells us the exact location of pregnancy, whether intra or extra uterine. We can know the exact duration of pregnancy by confirming the growth parameters of the baby on Ultrasound. We also get to know whether pregnancy is viable or not by seeing the heartbeat of baby which is visible 6 weeks onwards. Ultrasound can be transabdominal/ transvaginal. Early pregnancy is generally better seen on a transvaginal ultrasound.
