Canada's chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam presented the latest COVID-19 modelling data on Friday, showing a concerning rapid growth of variants' cases across the country. "To date, over 7,100 variants of concern cases have been reported across Canada, with the B.1.1.7 variant accounting for over 90 per cent of these cases." Dr. Tam said. The modelling data showed that previous declines in severity trends and daily cases have begun to reverse. Dr. Tam said that current public health measures will be insufficient to control the growth of variants, saying people still have to hold on longer and make a "last big push" in terms of limiting social interactions until vaccines protect the wider population. She urged the public to limit how many people they interact with and gather safely or virtually as Easter, Passover and Ramadan are approaching.
