Avatar: Fire and Ash Was Kind Of False Advertising…

Not too long ago we saw the release of the latest instalment in the Avatar franchise with Avatar: Fire and Ash. Coming into the release, once again, we had the James Cameron/Avatar doubter brigade going full force asking stupid questions like: “Who even asked for this?!” Or continually ranting about this is going to be the one that flops completely, trust me bro! Whilst it might not be grossing as much as the previous films, any franchise in this day and age would kill for these numbers. I went to see it and for the most part I thought it was a good film filled with great effects and some truly phenomenal performances. That being said I can’t help but sit here and wonder where the hell the fire and ash is. They marketed it as this big new dangerous world and they didn’t quite live up to the vibe for me. Instead it felt more like a part two to Avatar: The Way of Water, and also felt a bit samey in parts, as if they were treading the same ground as before. It wasn’t enough to make the narrative bad, I just think James got lost in his water world and didn’t pivot enough to something fresh.
