WisEye Morning Minute: Another Turn of the Dial for Wisconsin Businesses

At the May 11 Department of Health Services COVID-19 media briefing, Governor Tony Evers announced another turn of the dial for Wisconsin businesses. Emergency Order No. 36 was signed by DHS Secretary-designee Andrea Palm which allows all standalone or strip-mall based retail stores to offer in-person shopping for up to five customers at a time while maintaining required social distancing practices, and it allows drive-in theaters to operate with some restrictions. Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation Secretary and CEO Missy Hughes highlighted the importance of the order. "We have approximately 14,400 small retailers in this state with 20 or less employees, and so given the opportunity for these businesses to reenter the market place brings back about 90,000 jobs as those come back online," Hughes said.
