Unreported airstrike by U.S. military killed dozens in Syria

In the U.S. war against the Islamic State in Syria, the 2019 Baghuz airstrike marked the largest civilian casualty incident. However, the U.S. military has made several moves to conceal the catastrophic strike, which killed around 80 people, including women and children. On 18 March 2019, an American F-15E attack jet back-to-back dropped bombs on the crowd of women and children. Air Force lawyer Lt. Col. Dean W. Korsak flagged it as a war crime and notified the leadership and Air Force criminal investigators. He also alerted the Defense Department’s independent inspector general, However, no independent investigation was undertaken. Reports were delayed, sanitized and classified, Death toll was downplayed. The U.S.-led coalition forces bulldozed the blast site, Besides, no top leaders were notified. Colonel Korsak emailed the Senate Armed Services Committee, stating that a unit was “clearly seeking to cover up the incidents”. An enquiry was initiated by the Defense Department’s independent inspector general Gene Tate. But, the findings of the report regarding the strike were stalled and stripped. Tate said: “It makes you lose faith in the system when people are trying to do what’s right but no one in positions of leadership wants to hear it.” He was eventually forced out of his job. The detailed report about the airstrike was published for the first time by the New York Times. It was based on an enquiry from confidential documents, classified reports and interviews with personnel directly involved and officials. The New York Times sent its findings to U.S. Central Command, which acknowledged the strikes for the first time. They justified it by saying that 16 Islamic State fighters and 4 civilians were killed with 60 more people, who were not determined as civilians or combatants. If the deaths of these 64 civilians were acknowledged, the Baghuz strike would rank third on military’s worst casualty events in Syria. #US #Syria #HumanRights ----------- Check out related videos on Syria 👇 U.S. sanctions on Syrian prisons, officials for human rights violations    • U.S. sanctions on Syrian prisons, official...   Protests in Denmark as Syrian refugees have asylum denied    • Protests in Denmark as Syrian refugees hav...   Russian Rights Groups Condemn Moscow's Role in Abuses in Syria    • Russian Rights Groups Condemn Moscow's Rol...   U.S. condemns 3 deadly attacks in Syria    • U.S. condemns 3 deadly attacks in Syria   Why UAE & MBZ support Syria War despite US' warning of sanctions?    • Why UAE & MBZ support Syria War despite US...   ----------- Do subscribe to Did You Know?? for more interesting facts.    / @didyouknowaboutthis
