You're always going to be tired while completing Basic Combat Training for the Army. You might get caught, or you might not. But there are definitely consequences either way. I hope you enjoy the story of the two times I took naps and what the punishments were. If this is your first time on the channel, thank you for visiting! What you will find here is Army stories, Veteran benefits, and everything in between. Whether it is stories from Army Boot Camp or military lifestyle, the unique environment that army service provides is very entertaining. But the best part is, that the lessons from them usually are universal across all of the branches of service. Whether it's Army Basic Combat Training, Marine Recruit Training, Navy Boot Camp, Air Force Basic Training, Coast Guard Basic Training, or even Space Force Military Training: the core lessons transfer between all of the different services. Also from the Veteran side, you can compare and contrast the differences from when you served. Everyone's time in service is different, especially based on your US Army rank and US Army Job. But thankfully even though I was enlisted and my job was technically an Infantryman, I worked around a lot of Officers and senior enlisted. With this it gave me perspectives that aren't usually acquired during the first few years of your service. #army #basictraining #veteran #military Video transcript: One of the top skills the Army teaches you is how to sleep anywhere at anytime. But when you’re in Basic Training, you better not get caught sleeping when you’re not supposed to. I saw a few people let themselves knodd off and pay the consequences. I myself made the mistake twice in basic so lets start there. Now you would assume that not getting caught sleeping when you're not supposed to is better than getting caught. That's not always the case. What I used to do in basic training is, when we would go to bed at night, instead of sleeping under the covers, I would pull my extra blanket over my bed and sleep on top of it. The reason was so that in the morning I would just have to fold my dust cover blanket and tighten up my bed. Then I could shave before everyone else and skip the line. What I would do with this extra 15 20 minutes is take a nap in the bathroom stall. Like clock work my legs would fall asleep and wake me up in time for formation. The reason I stopped doing this is one day I fell into such a deep sleep I slept through morning formation and breakfast. I have no idea how the Drill Sergeants didnt notice me missing. But on this particular day we didn’t do PT before breakfast since we were going ruck to the range. So once I woke up and realized that everyone left already I just waited until they got back. That day we footmarched to the range with our rucksack and body armor on and then did squad movements for hours. You might think I got away with it scot free. Well I can tell you that it was an absolutely miserable day since I didn;t get to eat until lunch and was starving. You burn a ton of calories since your entire day is physical in basic. Without missing a meal you are uncomfortable let alone missing food. On top of that we had up chow which is when they deliver food to the field. Yes its fresh unlike MREs but you get much less food. So the whole day I felt miserable from not eating enough. The time I got Caught Sleeping when i wasnt supposed to was during our FTX. From my understanding the FTX or final field training exercise is now a different event a fort benning/moore. It used to be five days in the field with hardly any sleep, little food and lots of drill sergeant shenanigans to complete your infantry training. On our third day everyone was starting to feel the fatigue of being up all night with the simulated attacks on our fire base. We were in between events sitting in our fighting holes when I started to look around and saw that mostly everyone was shutting their eyes for a couple of moments of rest. I thought hey why not, i’m sure I hear the warning if a drill sergeant is coming. The next thing I knew I was slowly coming to with a Drill sergeant standing over me. He said, so you dont want to stand at parade rest either?! I knew I fucked up. Everyone one was running up the mountain towards the FOB so I started to when he told me to start bounding the opposite direction down the hill. After a minute or two I turned around to see that he was yelling at two other people in my company. Then he yelled you are dead fall down at me. I heard him yell at the two other guys to grab the casualty and bring him to the FOB. So my two buddies had to pick me up and carry me up the forested hill. I was incredibly embarrassed and kept apologizing to them. It was probably 200 meters later when the drill sergeant said I was alive again and let me run the rest of the way. Thankfully the two guys were my friends so I didn’t get any internal repercussions but still felt like shit which I imagine he was going for.
