THE DANGER OF MINISTRY BECOMING YOUR IDOL Many people in the Church get a sense of self-esteem and importance in life when they enter into some form of "Christian Ministry." If their personal life lacks intimacy with Jesus and doesn't possess the right relationship with him, ministry often becomes an idol in the minister's life. If the ministry becomes more important than their relationship with God it becomes a stumbling block in their life. Jesus shared this scary text with people who have "ministries." but no intimacy. Matthew 7:21-23 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ CASE IN POINT FOR ILLUSTRATION The doctrine of the Prosperity Gospel that God wants you to be rich and you will get that way by giving to our ministry, which is good soil, is a doctrine that promotes the sin of covetousness. Paul teaches that no unrepentant covetous person will go to heaven; therefore, the ministries that raise money this way and the people that support them are in danger of hell. Benny Hinn raised money this way for many years until his nephew Costi Hinn publicly rebuked him and called him out for his sin of promoting and using the prosperity gospel in his book on the false gospel of the prosperity gospel that you can read at this link attached. https://www.amazon.com/God-Greed-Pros... Thousands of people read this book, which sold well, and within weeks of the book's publication, Benny Hinn came on public TV and repented and said he was no longer going to practice the teachings of the prosperity gospel in his ministry. Three weeks later, I saw him on a Facebook Live, and he was back to preaching the prosperity doctrine. This concerned me, and I asked God what was going on. God told me that Benny could not manage his ministry with the lack of funds at the same level that he was used to, and so had reverted back to the prosperity message to raise funds again. The Lord told me that Benny had made his ministry an idol, and it was too important to him, and he did not want to let it go, even if it meant sinning to maintain it. It is vital, therefore, that you do not allow your ministry to become more important to you than God's holy ways and your own relationship. If Benny does not turn from the course he is pursuing, he is going to be told, "Depart from me I never knew you." If you know people who know Benny, please send him this.
