SOUNDBITE (English) US President Barack Obama (BITE STARTS UNDER WIDE OF BROWN AND OBAMA AT LECTERNS) "We are facing the most severe economic crisis since World War Two (goes full-screen) and the global economy is now so fundamentally interconnected that we can only meet this challenge together. We can't create jobs at home if we're not doing our part to support strong and stable markets around the world. The United States is committed, working alongside the United Kingdom to doing whatever it takes to stimulate growth and demand and to ensure that a crisis like this never happens again." 4. Cutaway of both leaders 5. SOUNDBITE (English) Barack Obama, US President: "In the days ahead, we'll consult further with our NATO allies about training Afghan security forces, increasing our civilian support and a regional approach that recognises the connection between the future of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Just a few other points: the prime minister and I share a common commitment to sustained diplomacy on behalf of a secure and lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians, and Israel and the Arab world. We're working together to responsibly end the war in Iraq by transitioning to Iraqi responsibility. We're both committed to diplomacy with Iran that offers the Islamic Republic the opportunity and a better future - if it abandons its nuclear weapons ambitions." 6. Cutaway of both leaders 7. SOUNDBITE (English) Barack Obama, US President: "...as I've said we've passed through an era of profound irresponsibility, now we cannot afford half measures and we cannot go back to the kind of risk-taking that leads to bubbles that inevitably bust. So we have a choice; we can shape our future or let events shape it for us. And if we want to succeed, we can't fall back on the stale debates and old divides that won't move us forward. Every single nation who is here has a stake in the other. We won't solve our problems in the next few days, but we can make real and unprecedented progress." 8. Cutaway of both leaders 9. SOUNDBITE (English) Gordon Brown, British Prime Minister: "Obama and I are agreed about the significance of this week's G20 meeting - that the world is coming together to act in the face of unprecedented global financial times. Our first duty is to those who are suffering most - the people anxious about their mortgages, their jobs and their families." 10. Cutaway of both leaders STORYLINE US President Barack Obama on Wednesday said the US could not deal with the world's financial crisis alone and that all G20 nations needed to act together to stimulate their economies. "We are facing the most severe economic crisis since World War Two," the president said at a news conference in London with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, ahead of the summit that has been convened to seek global agreement on tackling the recession. "The global economy is now so fundamentally interconnected that we can only meet this challenge together," Obama continued. And in a message to the other members of the G20 meeting in the British capital this week, the president said: "we have a choice, we can shape our future or let events shape it for us." He added that every nation "has a stake in the other" and if they all worked together "we can make real and unprecedented progress" in tackling the global financial crisis.
