A current focus of the Laboratory of Cellular Imaging & Macromolecular Biophysics (LCIMB) at the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering is the application and development of electron microscopy techniques for determining the 3D ultrastructure of eukaryotic cells. These approaches can provide important information about biological processes – and complement cryo-electron tomography – which is difficult to apply to whole cells and tissues.
