ISRAEL: JERUSALEM: PALESTINIAN HOMES DEMOLISHED

(3 May 1999) Arabic/Nat Two Palestinian homes were demolished near Jerusalem on Monday. Dozens of armed Israeli policemen guarded the bulldozers as they knocked down the two houses. Israeli authorities say the houses had been built without the correct permits. Armed Israeli police escorted the demolition workers as they knocked down two Palestinian houses. Israeli police say the houses, which were built near Jerusalem, were erected without permission. Family members were forced to move furniture out of their homes before they were destroyed. The owners are outraged at the turn of events. SOUNDBITE: (Arabic) "They came without warning, even guests warn you before they visit you, they came and demolished the home that we have been living in for two years."
