Cyclone "AMPHAN" Observed from Satellite for last 12 hours || Dated 22 May 2020 at 0600 UTC

The Super Cyclone "AMPHAN" (pronounced as UM-PUN) is a disturbance in the Bay of Bengal formed as depression on 15 May 2020. The depression became well marked and became a deep depression on 16 May 2020. The deep depression then intensifies and form a tropical cyclone on 16 May 2020. Then it further and further intensified and form a Super Cyclone on 18 May 2020. It made it landfall on 20 May Evening as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm on Sundarban at West Bengal coast with a wind speed of 185 km/h. The cyclone 'AMPHAN' was the strongest cyclone ever recorded in the Bay of Bengal, which surpassed the 1999 Odisha super cyclone at 260 km/h. The word 'Amphan', which is pronounced "Um-pun", originates from Thai and means "sky". The name was suggested by Thailand in the year 2004. The names are chosen from a list by a host of member countries part of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), a specialized agency within the UN's Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.
