Homily 16.10.2022 / Sunday of the 29th Week of Ordinary Time

First Reading Reading from the Book of Exodus (17:8-13): In those days, Amalek came and attacked Israel at Rephidim. Moses said to Joshua, "Choose a few men, make a sortie, and attack Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the mountain, holding the staff of God in my hand." Joshua did as Moses told him and attacked Amalek. Meanwhile, Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the mountain. While Moses held his hands up, Israel prevailed; while he held them down, Amalek prevailed. Because his arms were heavy, his companions took a stone and placed it under him so he could sit on it, while Aaron and Hur held up his arms, one on each side. Thus his arms held up until sunset. Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. Word of God _________________________________ Psalm Ps 120:1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 R/. R/. ________________________________________ Second Reading Reading from the Second Letter of Saint Paul to Timothy (3:14–4:2): DEAR BROTHER: Hold fast to what you have learned and believed, knowing from whom you learned it, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete and equipped for every good work. I charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead and by his appearing and his kingdom: Proclaim the word, be urgent in season and out of season, reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with all magnanimity and doctrine. Word of God _________________ Gospel according to Saint Luke (18:1-8), Sunday, October 16, 2022 Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Saint Luke (18:1-8): At that time, Jesus told his disciples a parable to teach them that it is necessary to pray always and not lose heart. “There was a judge in a certain city who neither feared God nor cared about men. In that city a widow kept coming to him and saying, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’ For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor care about men, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will grant her justice, lest she keep coming and bothering me.’” And the Lord added: “Consider what the unjust judge says; For will God not bring about justice for his chosen ones who cry out to him day and night? Or will he delay them? I tell you, he will bring about justice for them quickly. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find this faith on earth? The Word of the Lord
