Power Big Band Drumming with Drum Solo-Ken Loomer Big Band

Just like you have power Rock drumming with certain songs, the same goes for Big Band drumming. Since most drummers today never get a chance to play in a Big Band, I get to do my style of power drumming on this classic chart by Sammy Nestico"Wind Machine" that both Count Basie and Buddy Rich played. Here I set a very fast tempo to make the music exciting and play right on top of the beat to give the music a feeling it is moving fast like a train. No laying back on this Big Band chart. All of my drum fills are strong except the first one where I just played nothing,so the band just exploded right into the chart again. This type of power Big Band playing for these kind of charts must be played with knowing the music and making sure you don`t slow down. It`s straight with the music and playing the accents and setting up the horn hits in a good way. Then for my drum solo at the end with my classic Slingerland drums with the big 24 inch bass drum,I want a feeling of moving ahead in a strong way. Lots of snare drum playing with accents! Great power Big Band drummers like Buddy Rich,Louie Bellson,Steve Smith, Jeff Hamilton,Butch Miles, and Sonny Payne have this style of playing fast Big Band charts. Since drummers leading a Big Band is rare today,i wanted to make sure this music lives on along with this type of drumming. For my bio,go to kenloomer.com.
