German Whiskey? An Interview with Bastian Heuser of Stork Club Whiskey

In this video, we show you the interview with Bastian Heuser from Stork Club Whiskey. Enjoy! German whiskey, a disreputable product? Bastian Heuser clearly says: No. It's quite possible that it's somewhat disreputable in the German whiskey community, but not overall. Germany has always distilled grain, especially through grain products. This means that grain distilling is definitely in the German DNA. There are several producers in Germany who take the craft seriously. However, one point of criticism regarding German production is the pricing concept. Bastian also adds that interest in world whiskey, i.e., whiskey from non-traditional producing countries, is growing. Who is Bastian Heuser and what is Stork Club Whiskey? Bastian Heuser is a true giant in the spirits world. He became known as the co-founder of the renowned BCB trade fair. BCB stands for Bar Convent Berlin; it's the largest trade fair for the bar and beverage industry. Here, bar owners, bartenders, and producers from around 80 countries showcase their products and expertise. He also founded the marketing agency Small Big Brands seven years ago, an agency that focuses on the beverage industry. But that's not all. Four years ago, he co-founded Stork Club Rye Whiskey. They produce their own products in Brandenburg. They are Germany's first pure rye whiskey producer. What will the whiskey market look like? Interest in spirits has noticeably increased. Retailers are offering more and more spirits. From vodka to whiskey, there's always something for everyone. Bastian Heuser thinks it's good that they have the opportunity to offer their products in an Edeka supermarket. Predicting the future, he says he thinks the market will become more fragmented. It will split into many smaller segments, and individual producers will become very strong in their respective fields. However, the high level of interest in spirits was also seen as a disadvantage. Customers have "too much" choice. They could be overwhelmed by the sheer number of options. To get an even better understanding of what the distillery looks like and how the process works, Nicolas takes a closer look at the distillery. You'll find out more in the second part of the interview, which will be published soon! Is whiskey a topic that interests you?
