Disturbing Video Game Music 197: Dooms Day - Alien Syndrome

Alien Syndrome was a top-down shooter released by Sega way back in 1987. In the game you play as as soldier who must venture into space stations and planets to save his captured comrades from vile aliens who have been abducting people. Despite the humans being fairly chibi, the alien threat is actually quite creepy and how more than a little bit of inspiration from Gieger. Perhaps the most terrifying thing about the game however is the fact that each level is timed, the military has confidence you will succeed but in order to make sure the aliens are gone for good they have planted a bomb in each area to detonate. While this does ensure that the aliens in the area are totally dead, this also gives you a new sense of urgency especially when you take into account that death by time out is an instant game over. This makes the tremendously foreboding and almost heartbeat-like music of each stage all the more intimidating.
