Tesla unveiled its humanoid bot during Tesla's AI event and it has made headlines. During the Tesla AI day, Elon Musk explained that these bots are designed to help people with dangerous and "boring" tasks, as well as to make labour cheaper. This is exciting - and potentially dangerous. Pushing the boundaries of technology and continuously innovating to heighten artificial intelligence (ai) can either be a great thing, or a terrible initiative. Tesla is not a car company, but rather a tech company that collects data to continuously augment its products in an effort to increase its efficiency, capabilities, optimization, and utility. Tesla has strategically positioned itself as a leader within the EV space, and one that consistently challenges the boundaries of technology. Robotaxi is one of Tesla's most ambitious projects, with the goal to develop a fully autonomous software system that can navigate any road, and enable users to employ their cars for additional sources of passive income. The technology and equipment is already being developed by Tesla to equip their vehicles with autonomous capabilities. Thus, Tesla leveraged the opportunity to couple their systems and networks to develop a humanoid bot - known as Optimus. Tesla does not currently have a working prototype, however Elon Musk announced that they should have a working prototype next year (2022). The humanoid bot comes equipped with 8 cameras as well as various sensors. The android then leverages machine learning and environmental mapping to begin calculating how it will navigate the terrain/surroundings. The bots were designed as Able to deadlift 150 pounds Able to carry 45 pounds 5 ft 8' TALL in height Weighs 125 pounds Can travel at a maximum speed of 5 miles per hour. Given the concerns of AI, Tesla CEO Elon Musk ensured to address these concerns on AI day by stating that the physical limitations of the bots were such that a human should be able to overpower them or outrun them. Tesla has many different projects in it's pipeline, including the Cyberpunk Truck, Tesla Roadster, Humanoid Bots, battery technology, FSD technology (full service driving) - which is to be used for the Tesla bot, as well as the Tesla restaurants to name a few. Boston Dynamics is another organization that produces cutting edge AI technology with machine learning. The price of each Tesla bot is yet to be determined, and will likely be very expensive in the beginning. However, the potential applications and utility that a Tesla bot might yield makes it a very enticing project. Elon Musk knows how to draw a crowd and make headlines. Elon is no stranger to overextending and making promises that he cannot keep. Elon Musk has previously promised that there would be a million RoboTaxi's by the end of 2020. However, Tesla has yet to introduce a head-to-toe, fully autonomous vehicle that doesn't require a fully licensed driver to be present in the vehicle. Many critics have questioned whether Elon Musk will be able to deliver a prototype by next year. However, Elon Musk knows that by creating an atmosphere of excitement and consistently pushing the boundaries, he can quickly make headlines and attract new talent to his companies. Furthermore, Elon would be able to attract new and existing investors. The Tesla Humanoid Bot revealed on the Tesla AI day definitely made headlines and has people discussing what future technology might look like. Disclaimer: This is not financial advice.
