Lara Croft, a 21-year-old recent archaeology graduate, joins an expedition aboard the ship Endurance, led by her mentor Conrad Roth, in search of the lost kingdom of Yamatai, believed to be ruled by the mythical Sun Queen Himiko. The ship is wrecked in a violent storm near Yamatai. Lara and the crew are stranded on the island, which is teeming with danger—hostile wildlife, treacherous terrain, and a fanatical cult known as the Solarii Brotherhood, led by the deranged Mathias. Lara is separated from her friends and must survive on her own. As she searches for her companions, she uncovers that the island is cursed and that no one can leave due to supernatural storms. These storms are linked to Himiko, whose soul remains trapped in a decaying body, causing the island's chaos. Mathias believes that he must transfer Himiko’s soul into a new host to end the storms. He kidnaps Samantha Nishimura, Lara’s best friend, believing her to be Himiko's chosen vessel. Lara battles the Solarii, overcomes ancient traps and trials, and gradually evolves into a hardened survivor. Ultimately, she confronts Mathias and prevents the ritual, destroying Himiko's spirit and ending the supernatural storm.
