DNS12053 [News] Five men nabbed over $1m robbery

14 September 2012, Friday | my paper | By Chan Choong Han Police have arrested five men for involvement in the brazen robbery of three Indian businessmen at a Dunlop Street shophouse on Monday when more than $1 million was taken. The suspects are aged between 29 and 34, and three had impersonated police officers when they allegedly carried out the crime, said police at a press conference yesterday. They were nabbed in a 48-hour round-the-clock operation which began after a police report was made. About $850,000 in cash has been recovered, one of the largest sums recovered in a single case. It has not yet been established if the robbery was an inside job. The victims, aged between 28 and 36, were electronic-goods traders and had arrived in Singapore last week. During the robbery, two of the suspects were fully dressed in police uniforms while a third wore police trousers. They alleged that the victims were involved in illegal activities and forcibly tied them up. The three suspects then left in a car while the other two, who acted as lookouts, took off on foot. Police revealed that three of the suspects were Singaporeans - one is a music teacher with a private school, and another, a taxi driver. The other two suspects are foreign workers.
