Despite this, he is assigned once more to lead a young ANZAC unit — including a teenage recruit named Jack Foster. Plot: Bishop does everything he can to protect Jack from the madness of war. Gallipoli becomes a living hell of artillery, gunfire, and deadly gas. Determined to save the others, Bishop volunteers for a suicidal mission: delivering a crucial message to the Allied ships offshore. In the end, Bishop is shot and killed, but the message reaches the fleet, and the ANZAC troops are saved. Theme: The sacrifice of the older generation to protect the young. 🪂 The Runner – “Run for Those Who Can’t” I am Frederick Bishop. An old veteran, long tired of war — but they still sent me to Gallipoli. There, I met a young boy named Jack Foster — full of fire, untouched by the meaning of death. We landed on the beach under fire from the cliffs above. I ran with a message in hand, pushing through a hell of bullets and flame. Every step felt like another year of my life burning away. Jack wanted to be a hero, but I knew the truth: War has no heroes. Only people lucky enough to die last. When command ordered a message to be sent to the Allied ships, I knew I wouldn’t return. So I ran one last time — through artillery, through smoke, until a bullet tore through my chest. I fell, staring at the sky for the final time. My message made it. Jack lived. And for the first time, this war felt like it meant something.
