[TAS] Super Mario Galaxy 2: Sky Station 2 in 1:31.41 [Luigi]

Luigi storms the Sky Fleet in 1m31.41s [IGT, 5485 frames]. UPDATE 16/01/21: Shadow64 has made a TAS of this as Mario for the Any% TAS:    • (Outdated) [TAS] SMG2 | Sky Station 2 - 1:...   Originally, I went into this level to test a thing on the last planet for Shadow64, who has started an Any% TAS [update: this TAS attempt is discontinued, a new one has begun]:    • (Outdated) [TAS] Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Sk...   But then I started testing for Odme's Luma textbox skip and got it, and I decided to continue working out strats for the whole level. This isn't hyper-optimised but is still a solid TAS that improves on the current IL WR by 6.6s:    • Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Sky Station Galaxy:...   On the first planet, P2 spins the green bulb into the Chomp so Luigi can run straight to where the key spawns, saving a small bit of time. I had to manoeuvre around the bulb in such a way that P2 would hit at the best angle - I couldn't get P2 to target it because when holding something, P2 will move around the object to block it from Luigi, so the angle would be messed up. Then I long jump and land on a specific part of the ground where a small bump nudges Luigi just as I press A to talk to the Luma, which triggers the Luma but cancels the textbox, skipping straight to the transformation and saving ~1.5s. This is Odme skip. Due to not skipping cutscenes, the cycles of the next planet aren't optimal, however, the route that I worked out was only 0.37s slower than the IL record. This included an interesting long jump near the amp at the start that landed on some invisible collision slightly higher than normal, which meant the next long jump was high enough to bounce off the Octogoomba. On the flipswitch planet, I don't know the exact timesave of the different first section route, but it's no more than 3 frames - I could only tell it was faster as it was a quarter of a flipswitch further ahead in the second section at a frame checkpoint. For the last planet, I show off that P2 can target and hit the green bulb during flight, however, it doesn't get there early enough to get a good angle. This wasted 3f of lag though - like I said, not hyper-optimised. The thing I tested for Shadow was moving when landing. If you just hold one direction after the camera cancel, Luigi will run to the right no matter what direction you hold. But if you alternate between directions as the camera catches up, you can get Luigi to run upwards. P2 did come in handy for hitting the Piranha, although again, it hits at the angle away from Luigi, so I had to long jump to the south-west of the bulb. Even so, this saved ~40f over my best 1-player attempt. #SuperMarioGalaxy2 #ToolAssistedSpeedrun
