(1 Mar 2022) Thousands of anti-war protesters gathered Tuesday for a rally in support of Ukraine in central Athens. People held Ukrainian, Greek and European Union flags and placards and banners opposing Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin. Among many Greeks, several Ukrainians living in Greece attended the protest singing their national anthem and chanting slogans in support of their country. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine entered its sixth day on Tuesday, with a huge convoy of Russian tanks and armored vehicles on a road to the capital, Kyiv, and fighting intensifying there and in other big cities. Russia shelled several key sites in Kyiv and in the country's second-largest city, Kharkiv, killing at least 11 people and wounding dozens of others, Ukrainian officials said.
