I went back to the ASUS room and upon closer inspection something looked a bit off about the 27” 480Hz. According to TFT the clear protective film had not been removed 😂😂😂 It will be matte 🤮 Funny that at arms length even just leaving the protective film on looks much better. Goodbye 240Hz OLED - ASUS PG27AQDP 480Hz Monitor (CES 2024) Have you been waiting for those 360Hz QD OLED monitors, well bad news, because they’re about to get absolutely deleted by this ASUS PG27AQDP 480Hz WOLED gaming monitor which I was able to get some hands on time with at CES 2024 thanks to my Patreon supporters. Now I know what you're thinking, how could anything be better than a 360Hz QD OLED, well I was thinking the same, but this monitor absolutely blew me away. Not only is it using LGs latest MLA technology, but to my shock and disbelief its using one of the clearest glossy finishes I’ve ever seen, and after talking to ASUS representatives they confirmed that yes, this will be the final coating which buyers should expect, which is a very nice change to see from the usual hideous matte finish LG usually violates their WOLED monitors with. In fact this coating was so clear that despite rocking a 1440p resolution it actually looked far sharper and more colorful than even a 4K monitor they had on display close by. Now as for the rest of the specs, yes it is a 26.5” screen capable of up to a native 480Hz, which will absolutely dominate the E-sports scene as long as the screen can be set to a high enough uniform brightness, which I don’t think will be an issue as these displays from what I understand can get up to 275nits of full screen brightness and can peak up to 1,300 nits. So not only is the display able to pump out an additional 120Hz over the QD OLED alternative, but it should also be up to 30% brighter AND the glossy coating is significantly better than the gloss available on the QD OLEDs in my opinion as well, which unfortunately suffer from a magenta tint under even the smallest exposure to ambient light. But it doesn’t stop there. According to ASUS all their WOLED displays should feature some sort of BFI technology allowing for even greater motion clarity than any gaming monitor ever created. As of now they did confirm 120Hz BFI support, but it sounds like they are hoping to try and achieve 240Hz BFI or possibly even higher if they can implement it well. This would make the display incredibly clear in motion and could be compared likely to a 1000Hz refresh rate on an LCD in terms of motion clarity. BUT WAIT that’s not all, after some testing I found that the 27” model will actually come equipped with LGs new RGWB subpixel layout panels for better text clarity meaning that they should be closer to QD OLED V2 for text readability. Now of course QD OLED will still be far superior in terms of color volume, and may still pull ahead for text clarity, but as you can see these new LG panels are bringing some serious competition which for competitive gamers could actually make them superior, and the ASUS version on display was incredibly impressive by every perceivable metric, so I can’t wait to do a full review soon. Speaking of which, when can you buy this? Well, I didn’t hear any official exact release dates, but if leaks are to be believed it sounds likely they will be available for purchase sometime in the second half of 2024, so likely 6 months from the creation of this video or longer, but who knows, maybe LG and ASUS will jump scare us with an early release, as LG has done similar things in the past. But enough about this one, make sure you're subscribed, because I have an ungodly amount of OLED and Mini LED monitor content coming probably every day during and after CES, next of which will likely be 32” 4K 240Hz OLED.
