What is Masculinity | Gender Roles in Society Today | Men's Studies | Manhood in America is a men's studies analysis as to the role of men in society. Throughout the last 60 years, traditional masculinity has changed and because of the changes, many feel that manhood in America is under attack. However, this is not necessarily the case, manhood in America has just evolved and as men, we need to redefine masculinity and answer the question again of "What is Masculinity." Gender roles now and then have changed. Women now are in the workforce and are financial contributors leaving people asking the question "What Happened to Masculinity?" There's certainly been an evolution of masculinity and we go over this by how have gender roles changed since 1950. The traditional male roles in society has changed, in this video we go over the masculine traits in a man. Traits that perhaps weren't important before but are now. Today what is a masculine man is not the same answer as traditional masculinity but instead is more evolved. Masculinity characteristics today are more about the modern man being self reliant, loyal and present with his family. Man role in the family is huge compared to how it was in the 60's. There are many reason for why gender toles now and then have changed. Most historians however point to "The Pill" as being the main reason why it changed with the start of the sexual revolution. I go through history of gender roles and men's studies to show that traditional masculinity is outdated and men need to rethink our value in parenting and spouse. What was a masculine man back then would be considered a weak man today. Because masculinity characteristics are more about the individual along with family and less dependent than the role of a woman. Today what is a masculine man wouldn't not be considered masculine back the but what was a masculine man back then would also be seen today as an immature man. That's because the role of men in society is very different than it was.
