Gospel of the Day (Mark 6:14-29) | Daily Homily with Father Edilberto Alves da Costa Saint Francis of Assisi Parish – Jaguaré | February 6, 2026 Gospel (Mark 6:14-29): At that time, King Herod heard about Jesus, for his name had become well known. Some said: “John the Baptist has risen from the dead, and that is why these powers are at work in him.” Others said: “He is Elijah.” Still others said: “He is a prophet like one of the prophets.” But when Herod heard this, he said: “John, whom I had beheaded, has risen!” Indeed, it was Herod himself who had John arrested and put in chains in prison, because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, whom he had married. John had been telling Herod: “It is not lawful for you to take your brother's wife.” Therefore, Herodias hated him and wanted to kill him, but she could not. Herod was afraid of John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he protected him. When he heard him, he was perplexed, but he liked to listen to him. Then, the opportune day arrived: it was Herod's birthday, and he gave a banquet for his nobles, the officers, and the leading men of Galilee. The daughter of Herodias came in and danced, pleasing Herod and his guests. Then the king said to the girl: “Ask me for whatever you want, and I will give it to you.” And he swore to her: “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, even half of my kingdom.” She went out and asked her mother: “What should I ask for?” Her mother replied: “The head of John the Baptist.” She quickly went into the king’s presence and made the request: “I want you to give me now, on a platter, the head of John the Baptist.” The king was very sad, but because of his oath and his guests, he did not want to refuse the girl’s request. So the king immediately sent an executioner to the prison, with orders to bring John’s head. The executioner went, beheaded John in the prison, brought the head on a platter, and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother. When John's disciples heard about this, they went and took his body and placed it in the tomb. ───────────────────────────── 🙏 Come and participate in our masses at the São Francisco de Assis Parish – Jaguaré: Tuesday to Thursday: 7 PM Friday: 7 AM and 3 PM Saturday: 5 PM Sunday: 7 AM, 9 AM, 11 AM and 7 PM 📍 Address: São Francisco de Assis Parish Av.
