PREPARING FOR DIFFICULT TIMES: Increasing SELF-SUFFICIENCY to reduce food bills.
Shocked by the rising price of food and the talk of a food crisis in the news, we have started working towards a more self-sufficient life by installing a poly tunnel and growing our own food. We are a young family living completely off grid in a woodland which we have grown from scratch. We use solar power to generate our electricity and collect and filter rain water. Not having to pay for these utilities makes a big difference to our monthly outgoings, but we have still felt the impact of the rise in food prices and are looking to secure our supply of healthy, good quality food by growing more of it ourselves. We are at the beginning of this project and have so much more that we want to achieve. So far we have planted: Lettuce Spinach Broccoli Broad beans Spring onions Butternut Squash Tomatoes Aubergine Peppers Beetroot Potatoes Cauliflower Carrots Raspberries Strawberries We have more seeds on order too!
