He earned his Bachelor of Theology from the Southern Presbyterian Seminary in Campinas, São Paulo, from 1978 to 1981, and his Doctor of Ministry from the Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi, in the United States, from 2000 to 2001. He was pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Bragança Paulista from 1982 to 1984 and has been pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Vitória since 1985. He is also a member of the Brazilian Evangelical Academy of Letters, executive director of Luz para o Caminho in Campinas, and a collaborating pastor at the Pinheiros Presbyterian Church in São Paulo.
