(12 Dec 2016) Scores of demonstrators marched near Istanbul's main police station on Monday to denounce twin bombings that killed 44 people, most of them police officers. The crowd, organised by a public servants' union, chanted "martyrs don't die" and "damn the PKK" referring to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Union which is considered to have ties to the group that claimed responsibility for the attacks. In a statement posted on its website, the Kurdistan Freedom Falcons, or TAK, said the attack was reprisal for state violence in the southeast and the ongoing imprisonment of Abdullah Ocalan, the leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK.
