美대선 최대승부처 TV토론 D-7…"1억명 지켜본다" Turning to the race for the White House. The first televised debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will take place less than a week from now. Our Kim Jung-soo breaks down this highly anticipated event for us. With 50 days to go until the general election in the U.S., the first presidential debate will take place in less than a week from now, on Monday, September 26th at Hofstra University in New York. The debate will be divided into six segments, with each one 15 minutes long. During each segment, the candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, will each have a two-minute window to respond to questions raised by the moderator, and then they'll be allowed to engage in a debate with one another. Pundits like Democratic Party strategist Robert Shrum have characterized the debate as the most anticipated TV event in history, comparable to the 1969 moon landing. According to Republican strategist Ford O' Connell, more than 100 million viewers will tune in live to watch the showdown. After the first debate next Monday, there will be two more presidential debates -- on Sunday, October 9th, in St. Louis, Missouri, and on Wednesday, October 19th, in Las Vegas, Nevada. A vice presidential debate between Tim Kaine and Mike Pence is scheduled for Tuesday, October 4th, in Farmville, Virginia. The debates come amid shifting polls showing Clinton and Trump running neck and neck,... after a summer where Clinton seemed to have an assuring lead over Trump. According to polling data from Real Clear Politics released on Saturday, Trump had closed to the gap to a mere one-and-a-half points. O'Connell has attributed the recent turn-around to Clinton's bout with pneumonia, which occurred during a 9/11 memorial service. The incident has raised concerns about whether the 68-year-old is fit to serve in the office of president. Clinton also tarnished her own public image by describing half of Trump supporters as a "basket of deplorables" during a fundraiser on September 9th. Kim Jung-soo, Arirang News.
