Should Washington Fire Ron Rivera?

The Washington Commanders were just defeated by the previously winless Chicago Bears at home on Thursday Night Football 40-20. After the game, many Washington fans are calling for head coach Ron Rivera to be fired, so in todays episode of MTS Mike Talks Sports, I break down the history of Ron Rivers’s coaching career, along with analyzing his performance as the coach of Washington in order to determine: Should Ron Rivera be fired by the new ownership in Washington? As a former legendary defensive player for the Chicago Bears and a former defensive coordinator for the Bears and Chargers, Ron Rivera has been known to be a defensive head coach who is more of that CEO/overseer of the team/culture instiller. His Commanders defenses have been good in 2020 and 2022 but struggled in 2021 and has been awful to start the 2023 NFL season, allowing 32 points per game on defense. Meanwhile his offense has always struggled, ranking 25th and 24th the past 3 seasons. As for the culture he’s instilled in Washington, he did a very good job at navigating the Daniel Snyder situation, but I do question his overall ability to take accountability and instill a good locker room, as he’s had countless incidents such as not backing offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, scapegoating Carson Wentz for Washingtons failures during a Cooper Rush Cowboys winning streak just to bench Taylor Heinicke against the Browns for Wentz, his blaming of players instead of coaching and his scheme, and his overall handling of the Dwayne Haskins situation to name just a few.
