Hunt instructs states to 'throw the book' at anyone breaching hotel quarantine protocol

Health Minister Greg Hunt has instructed states to "throw the book" at anyone in breach of protocols following explosive claims security personnel hired at Melbourne's quarantine hotels lacked training and slept with overseas arrivals. Mr Hunt said he was pleased with the overall response by states and territories in their public health responses, including hotel quarantine. "The hotel quarantine system has helped bring 60,000 Australians home safely," he said. "These are two cases where there are very strong claims of inappropriate behaviour. "The authorities need to investigate... if the claims are upheld, then throw the book at them." Mr Hunt reiterated the need for testing, calling for greater individual responsibility but supported Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews' reluctance to institute forced testing.
