I draw Miku-san's silhouette using the lasso tool. Since it lets me quickly sketch rough shapes, I've been using this method a lot lately. 00:04:02 Rough Sketch ① Based on the silhouette created earlier, I draw the line art to visualize the details. Since this illustration was intended for a “hair painting tutorial video,” I focused on “hair” as the theme when considering motifs and poses. The image is of Miku combing her hair with a brush. 00:06:47 Silhouette ② I liked the first draft, but I drew another silhouette just in case. I usually sketch 2 or 3 roughs because it broadens the range of ideas and lets me compare them to choose the best one. 00:08:31 Rough Sketch ② I start drawing the line art. The second idea has the same pose, but the composition is slightly more overhead. It's cute, but the “hair” impression is weaker, so I'm wondering if it might not suit this theme very well...? 00:11:59 Rough (Line Art) Decided on the first draft. Added a new layer and redrew the line art. 00:19:53 Rough (Coloring) Started coloring. The order is the same as the final color: “Base color → Apply shadows with Multiply → Add highlights with Hard Light → Adjust color tones with Overlay.” 00:27:12 Line Art Drawing the line art. Drawing mindlessly without worrying about line thickness, then refining by adding or removing lines once roughly complete. 01:03:55 Undercoat Applying the undercoat using the “Fill Tool” to cover all gaps. 01:06:15 Applying Base Color Applying the base color directly onto the layer with the undercoat. *For this hair painting tutorial video, I've separated the hair layer, but usually everything is completed on a single layer. 01:17:49 Apply shadows with Multiply Apply shadows across the entire illustration. 01:18:41 Add highlights with Hard Light Use the Lasso Tool to add highlights in white. 01:34:54 Adjusting color tones with Overlay Since the overall saturation is low, I'll add color tones in some areas and lighten the color of hair in the background. 01:36:15 Adding deeper shadows with Multiply I'll add shadows to the edges between light and shadow, and to the darkest parts within the shadows. 01:39:35 Begin thick painting Merge all layers and proceed with thick painting. From here on, I'll repeatedly add details and make corrections as I notice areas needing attention.
