In Flanders Fields | American Legion Auxiliary

The Friday before Memorial Day is The American Legion Family National Poppy Day®. A day to remember the fallen and honor the living. The poppy became a symbol of remembrance and hope following deadly battles in Europe during World War I. The red flowers bloomed in the battlefields where lives were lost. Now, more than a century later, the poppy remains a universal symbol of the sacrifices made by servicemembers. In 1915, Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae wrote the wartime poem “In Flanders Fields” while serving on the front lines.
