CRHnews - Chelmsford Council 'deaf' claim as voters vent fury over Local Plan

Apologies for the quality of the video, and, if you made a brilliant speech and it was cut short or does not appear. Frankly I need a camera assistant, grip, director, producer, gaffer, electrian, audio person, DIT, art director, boom operator, production sound mixer and studio processing team . . . no pay, just the satisfaction of taking part in local democracy. Get involved with National Democracy Week The inaugural National Democracy Week is running from 2 – 6 July and Essex County Council is offering the public the chance to get involved and find out more about decision making, voting and democratic engagement in Essex. On Tuesday 3 July members of the public are invited to take part in a one hour “Question Time” in the ECC Council Chamber – the chance to ask questions on specific topics to local council members. For more information or register contact [email protected]. All week there will be information stalls in County Hall Atrium and outside Chelmsford Library, giving members of the public the chance to learn about democracy and how important it is. Councillor David Finch, Leader of Essex County Council said: “It is essential that people understand why getting involved in the democratic process is so important. Having and using the right to vote, understanding how legislation is made and how decisions made by local councils affect you on a daily basis can help you feel more engaged, involved and valued. We are so lucky that we are a democratic society and I would strongly urge people to find out more during National Democracy Week.” The start of the Week – Monday 2 July – is the 90th anniversary of the 1928 Equal Franchise Act which gave women the same voting rights as men. This anniversary is also being celebrated by the Snapping the Stiletto project which celebrates the achievements of Essex Women in the 100 years since some women got the vote.
