Ukraine crisis: Putin warns of 'bloodshed' as he recognises breakaway regions

Vladimir Putin has paved the way for an invasion of Ukraine after he announced that Russia will recognise the breakaway regions of eastern Ukraine as independent. Mr Putin confirmed the step in a televised address to the Russian nation this evening. During a lengthy speech, the Russian President said: "We demand that those who seized power in Kyiv immediately stop the hostilities.
