On Saturday 4 September 1999, the SWD Eagles played the Golden Lions in the semi final of the Currie Cup at Ellispark. It was the Union's first Currie Cup semi final in their 100th year of existence. They took a heavy beating and had to play without Anton Leonard, Johan Wasserman and Theo van Rensburg. They scored three tries. This was the first of them scored by Marius Bosman.
