ALADDIN “A MUSICAL SPECTACULAR” TO BE FREE | DISNEY THROWBACK

Disney's Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular was a Broadway-style show based on the 1992 animated feature film, Aladdin, with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. It was performed inside the Hyperion Theater in the Hollywood Land section of Disney California Adventure from 2003 to 2016. On September 9, 2015, Disney announced that the show would close at California Adventure in 2016 to be replaced by a similar production based on the 2013 animated feature film Frozen. A version of the show continues to play onboard the Disney Cruise Line ship Disney Fantasy. The production is a Broadway-type show. Many of the classic scenes and songs from the movie are re-created on stage and some of the action even spills out into the aisles, like Prince Ali's jubilant arrival in Agrabah on elephant back. Flying carpets, magic lamps, wise-cracking genies, princesses and evil wizards are all a part of this musical production. At Disney California Adventure, this 45-minute production took place in the 2,000 seat Hyperion Theater, located at the end of Hollywood Land.. Alan Menken composed and wrote lyrics for a new song for this production, called "To Be Free". When Disney's California Adventure opened, an original Disney musical called Disney's Steps in Time was performed in the Hyperion. A scaled-down version of the musical Blast! followed. The show remained consistently popular in its 13 years run at Disney California Adventure because, while most of the show is scripted, Genie's dialogue was constantly updated to reflect current events in the news and cultural trends, thus ensuring his jokes would be timely and relevant. The show initially opened at Disney California Adventure with Fastpass but was discarded after a few months. It would be reinstated in the final month of the show as demand grew and the show played to full houses leading to its final day on January 10, 2016. Disney originally announced the show at Disney California Adventure would be replaced by a Toy Story Musical with Aladdin closing in 2010. Due to a variety of reasons, Aladdin was extended to an open-ended run with Toy Story being shelved. 5 years later, Disney announced its closure to make way for Frozen: Live at the Hyperion which happened on January 10, 2016 From Disney Wiki #disneyland #nocopyrightinfringementintended
