Hiking Rocky Mount - Shenandoah National Park

Hiking Rocky Mount - Shenandoah National Park

This hike takes place in the Shenandoah National Park south of Elkton, Virginia in the southern section of the National Park. The goal of this hike is the Rocky Mount summit. This trail is a moderately easy class 1 trail. The trailhead is located at Twomile Run Overlook on Skyline Drive. I parked on the side of the road; there was enough space for 3 or 4 vehicles. The trailhead is at approximately 2,700 feet, and then you continue north and drop elevation to 1,840 before climbing to the summit at 2,741 feet. I followed the Rocky Mount Trail 3.4 miles to the summit. It is possible to use the Gap Run Trail to make a loop. It seems like a lot of backpackers use this loop. Route: Out and back on the Rocky Mount Trail.
