More special presidential envoys are at various countries carrying out urgent missions, including handing a personal letter from the new South Korean president. Hwang Hojun updates us on the Moon administration's efforts to kick foreign affairs agenda into high gear. The former mayor of Incheon, Song Young-gil, now a lawmaker with the ruling Democratic Party, arrived in Moscow Monday afternoon to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and deliver a personal letter from President Moon. Song is no stranger to Russia. He was awarded Russia’s Order of Friendship in 2010, and is expected to convey a message of bilateral cooperation on the North Korean nuclear issue, as well as pursuing joint energy ventures. Speaking to reporters on his arrival in Moscow, Song stressed that President Putin could play a significant role in putting an end to the North's nuclear and missile development... in view of his good standing in Pyongyang as well as Washington. Now, Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, the President's envoy to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, is set to meet with the Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Tuesday afternoon, local time, and deliver a personal letter from President Moon to him as well. Park will pass on Seoul's desire to strengthen ties with Indonesia and ask for its support in resolving the North Korea nuclear crisis. Widodo was made an honorary citizen of Seoul when he visited South Korea in May last year in recognition of his people-friendly reforms. Park will leave for Vietnam on Wednesday and meet with the Vietnamese President on Thursday. Meanwhile, President Moon's special envoy to the Vatican, Archbishop Kim Hee-joong, has been in Rome since Saturday, local time. He's likely to meet with Pope Francis on Wednesday to deliver President Moon's letter... likely after President Trump's meeting with the Pope that morning. A Korean newspaper has reported that President Moon's letter seeks the Pontiff's help in arranging an inter-Korean summit, but Cheong Wa Dae denied that in a statement,... emphasizing that a summit between the two Koreas would be premature,... especially amid Pyongyang's ongoing missile provocations.
