【JP013】Leo in Japan 【第5回子ども世界平和サミット】 Leoさんが考える世界平和を創るアイデアとは何? What is Leo's World Peace Summit's idea of creating world peace? Hello, this is Leo Iiyama and I would like to express my opinion on how we can create a world with “peace.” While peace means no violence, no guns, no wars to a lot of people, I notice that now the real meaning of peace is not limited to the physical peace, I want to highlight that the key to create the world of peace, we have to look at the verbal violence, which often done on the InternetI want to share my experience when I moved from Singapore to japan. I am a Japanese who was born in Singapore. When I was in Singapore my life went without any discrimination. Though I was attending an international school, my peers around me never discriminated me. However, when I moved to Japan I experienced a discrimination for the first time in my life. They often joke like you're Chinese or you're a terrorist which made me so disgusted. Why, why do discrimination problems occur? By comparing Singapore and Japan I think I got a point. The point is that if we are immune to differences or not I think Japan the monocultural country make Japanese not immune to differences. We are now living in environments surrounded by almost the same kind of people same hair color same eye color same skin color and same language. Because of these conditions I think we tend to shift differences into weirdness we likely think that what we perceive as a different thing is perceived as a weird thing. However in Singapore the differences were taken for granted. In my life I rarely met the same religious or skin color people in Singapore. What can we do to solve discriminations? I think the vital thing is to understand the difference. It turned out to me that the difference is not a matter when I can find what it is like, difference is the best and the only way to solve discrimination problems and the great respect for every individual on Earth. When we achieve this mutual understanding, why we can not realize the world with peace, where we can be honest ourselves and be in true happiness. Thank you for listening.
