Officer Richard May remembered on the day his killer is sentenced

A former Lompoc police officer is remembered, on the day his killer is sent to death row. A San Mateo County judge upheld a jury's recommendation to give 26-year-old Alberto Alvarez the death penalty. He's convicted of murdering East Palo Alto Police Officer and former Lompoc Officer Richard May, back in 2006. Lompoc Police Chief Tim Dabney worked with May for eight years. "Although I'm glad that justice has been served, and I know that our brothers in blue up in East Palo Alto feel the same way, it doesn't bring Rich back and my heart still goes out to his family," Chief Dabney said. May grew up in San Luis Obispo and worked for the Lompoc Police Department for more than a decade before joining the East Palo Alto police force in 2004.
