Rail Shoo-fly!! Abandoned Railroad Crossing, Railroad Construction, Rerouted Main Line Railroad!

Abandoned level railway crossing & Railroad Shoofly. Main line railroad track is rerouted around the railroad construction zone on Norfolk Southern Rathole line in Richwood, Kentucky. This was a dangerous railroad crossing where semi trucks had been struck by trains. Railroad workers told me that a temporary shoofly was installed to get the tracks away from the construction zone. The old mainline track will be removed next week. The railroad is installing an overpass to eliminate the crossing and have the road go under the railroad. A temporary construction siding was built at the south end of the project. The north end of the project has a dangerous crossing and I filmed a train crossing it. The crossing has a short distance between it and Dixie Highway. This project also required a temporary switch and siding alignment for an existing customer spur. I filmed a couple trains going around the shoofly track and crossing the abandoned railroad crossing. The old crossing on Richwood Rd had gates, lights and bells. The workers told me that the state has to pay for the project and that it will take about 1 and a half years to complete. Have you ever seen a railroad shoofly? Leave a comment below.
