Third time lucky! I had been thwarted in my two earlier attempts to bag some footage from this location. I had business in Cardigan which is only 10 minutes drive from here. Both times although a bright sunny day, having got out of the car into a howling gale, I had decided not to risk losing my drone. Today was only marginally better, the wind was still blowing a gale as you might see from the large swells. I chanced putting 'Buzby' (My drone) up and it was most unhappy with the wind but tried its best. I kept losing signal, such was the wind blowing the tiny 250 gram drone all over the place. I daren't risk going very far away or spending too long over the sea. There were moments where the winds dropped a little and we have the edited footage here. The smaller island which is connected by a narrow neck to the mainland near the Cliff Hotel is actually an Iron Age coastal promontory fort named Graig y Gwbert and is designated WA2375 by the national Hillfort Atlas https://hillforts.arch.ox.ac.uk/ It's difficult to determine how much of this fort may have been lost to coastal erosion over the last couple thousand years. But from the air it is easy to see what a splendid defensive position this fort had and with direct access to comings and goings by boat. Today this ancient location plays host to two holes of the local Gwbert Golf Course although it is accessible via a public footpath. A mile to the north from here is Cardigan Island today left uninhabited as a nature reserve for Seabirds, Seals and Cetaceans which frequent the coastal parts. In the past there must have been human activity here as there are field systems and enclosures some of which can still be seen from the air. The land on the right as you look towards the island is managed by Cardigan Island Farm Park and is at times open to the public with private coastal walks and it has a plethora of domesticated rare breeds of farm animals for the families to enjoy. Looking south into Pembrokeshire over the Teifi Estuary, the great beach is Poppit Sands a popular destination for its wide expanses of sand backed by dunes. The great white building is The Cliff Hotel which often plays host to weddings and conferences. Its good to see that it seems to have weathered the recent pandemic and lockdowns and is slowly getting back to normal. Music: "The Celtic Sea" appropriately titled. Once again written by myself for my project ~ Nostramus and was inspired by the footage. Today was windy enough but the sea can get very rough at times around here.
