Milford Jct., IN Trains in 1986 - Soo Line, early CSX, Conrail - some scanner audio

My very first visit to Milford Junction is the first video. My dad and I drove down here after work/school. We waited until sunset, saw nothing, and had started to leave, but saw a distant headlight to the west from the SR 15 overpass. It was Soo Line 502, a high priority train that I had recently read about in Trains Magazine. Trains 502 & 503 had starting running between Chicago and Montreal using the B&O route on May 1st. Video descriptions and chapter links are below. Thanks for watching! ~ Zeke August 28, 1986 00:00 Soo Line 502 (SOO 6619, P3 horn), 60 mph August 29, 1986 01:17 B&O 4230 westbound in strong afternoon lighting September 13, 1986 02:25 Soo Line 503 (SOO 6608, P3 horn), 60 mph 03:28 Radio chatter, Fox BMP 10/60 Scanner, Conrail INEL, Chessie 168.8 detector in Gravelton 04:13 BO 4000 east with 2-toned RS5T horn, (CO 3861 trailing 2nd). 05:15 Conrail INEL finally gets the lineup (CR 6412, CR 6757, CR 7968, CR 3295, CR 3313), Caboose CR 23531 (ex-NH) brings up the rear. It’s part bay window and part cupola. September 20, 1986 07:48 Conrail INEL-0 attempts to call the Marion Branch dispatcher to no avail. Conductor and brakeman go to the crank phone to call CSX. 09:00 Soo Line 502 (SOO 6615, SU3L horn) blasts across the diamond. 10:03 Conrail INEL-0 finally gets rolling with a trio of SD50s (CR 6746, CR 6796, CR 6715). October 18, 1986 11:37 Westbound CO 1504 (GP15T with awesome RS5T horn) and a GP30. 1504 originally had a K5LA, as did pretty much all of their GP15s. Caboose CO 904151 brings up the rear. This caboose is currently on display at the Plymouth Historical Museum in Michigan. 12:34 Eastbound WM 7572 with a B&O GP9. 7572 has a pretty horrific-sounding RS5T. October 26, 1986 13:41 Soo Line 503 (SOO 6612, SU3L horn) comes off the siding, running around a slower westbound train. The Soo Line railrunners were hot trains on CSX. 14:50 Westbound BO 4022 gets the lineup just before stopping with 3 elephant-style Geeps. He is following Soo Line 503. BO 4022’s horn sounds like a Prime 920. 15:54 Northbound Conrail coil steel train led by CR 6819. I’m pretty sure this was one of the trains from Granite City, IL headed to Portage or Burns Harbor - possibly GCM-2. 16:53 Westbound CO 4170 leading the Wisconsin Electric coal train that came off of the P&LE. Sounds like another Prime 920 horn. That is CR 6300, the Savings Bond Unit, trailing 4th. Caboose PLE 508 brings up the rear. December 6, 1986 - slide show with the actual audio. 18:08 Slide show - CO 4183 westbound. 19:02 Slide show - WM 4352 westbound. Great K5LA horn. Final slides on each train above were taken by my dad. December 23, 1986 20:02 Westbound WM 4257 in the fog.
